About

Ahmet Mehmet

Hello, my name is Ahmet Mehmet. I am a practicing Counsellor, Psychotherapist, CBT Therapist and Hypnotherapist based in the heart of the city of London. I am also a member of the the British association for counselling & psychotherapy (BACP).

My career in personal development started over Twenty years ago. Starting out in the health and fitness industry as a personal trainer. During this time I discovered that occasionally some of my clients would compromise their progress through self destructive behaviours. Realising this, I was inspired to study other ways of supporting my clients to understand exactly what it was that was stopping them from achieving what they desired. This led me to a career in counselling, I wanted to support my clients to gain greater self-awareness and make empowering changes. The way I work with clients has been heavily influenced by my own continued commitment to personal growth and development in addition to learning from clients. I work with a variety of mental health conditions and specialise in anger issues, anxiety disorders, stress related conditions, self confidence issues and depression.

Since qualifying in 2006 I have gone on to gain a number of qualifications in counselling & psychotherapy:

Qualifications in counselling & psychotherapy

•Diploma in Person Centered Counselling
•Certificate in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
•Certificate in Hypnotherapy
•NLP Master Practitioner
•Certificate in Mindfulness
•Certificate in Clinical Supervision

Qualification in Health and fitness

•Level 2 fitness instructor
•Level 2 Children's Fitness Instructor
•Level 5 Exercise on Referral specialist
•Level 4 Cancer Rehabilitation Specialist

A strength to my way of working is that I am able to rapidly identify and work with core issues that cause my clients difficulty, that they may not be aware of. The core of my work is based in the Person Centred approach of Carl Rogers. the fundamental aim of this approach is to build a positive relationship between client and counsellor, this allows clients to develop a more accepting and empowering relationship with themselves. By bringing the various areas of my experience I am able to provide clients with a holistic approach to their personal development. If you think I would be able to support you, please do get in touch.

Counselling & Therapy

Counsellor, Psychotherapist & Hypnotherapist in The City of London and Central London

Humanistic Counselling

Through experience I have come to understand the importance of creating an empowering relationship with my clients based on acceptance, non-judgement, compassion, honesty, empathy and understanding.

Through working with my clients I have found that when these conditions are present within our therapeutic relationship it makes it possible for my clients to feel safe and secure enough to explore the issues and fears that are causing them distress and to move towards making changes.

My strengths are being able to identify and work with core issues quite rapidly, that cause my client’s difficulty and which are very often out of my client’s awareness and supporting my clients to gain greater self-awareness and make empowering changes.

My training and experience is quite diverse and I work with Person Centred Counselling, CBT, Hypnotherapy and Mindfulness with my clients.

Because I have been trained in various forms of Counselling and Psychotherapy I am able to tailor the therapy to best suit the needs of my clients.

I work with both short-term solution focussed therapy as well as longer term therapy.

If you think I would be able to support you with what it is you would like help with then please do get in touch.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is the psychotherapeutic approach that looks at the link between our thoughts, feelings and behaviour and how we are influenced by this interaction which then affects how we perceive ourselves, others and the world

This diagram shows how the link between thoughts feelings and behaviours operates.

CBT also acknowledges the role of underlying beliefs, often out of our awareness, which tend to be the ‘power house’ of our thoughts, feelings and behaviours and which are crucial when making therapeutic changes when using CBT.

By taking the time to bring into our awareness what it is we are thinking and uncovering our thought patterns which have become habitual over time it is possible to bring about therapeutic changes in any distortions in our beliefs and thought patterns which may be causing us distress.

I can support you to change the way you think about an event to enable you to change the way you feel about it and consequently change how you behave which results in achieving a more helpful outcome in any given situation.

I often tend to incorporate Mindfulness exercises alongside my CBT work as this supports my clients in being able to recognise unhelpful thought, feeling and behaviour patterns without becoming overwhelmed by them.

Hypnotherapy and Neuro Linguistic Programming

All of my clients come to me at the stage where everything they have tried in order to solve their problem no longer works.

It may have been that what they were doing did at some point provide some relief from their difficulty but now what was once a solution has become the problem.

An example could be that if as a child you were told not to speak with strangers it may have been really good advice at the time yet this message would have gone deep into the unconscious (depending on how reinforced it was) and would have influenced your thoughts feelings and behaviour. Fast forward to age 30 and the same person has difficulty meeting new people and we can see how the solution can be become the problem.

I can help you to change unwanted habits and behaviours rapidly and effectively using the Psychotherapeutic approaches of Hypnotherapy and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).

By using the skills of Hypnotherapy it’s possible to make lasting therapeutic changes at a very deep unconscious level which then manifest on a conscious level and is experienced in changes in thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

By understanding how we structure and remember an experience through our senses it is possible to effect positive and lasting change through the use of NLP by cognitive restructuring of our experiences to be more in tune with who we are today.

Here are just some of the areas I have helped my clients to make positive changes in:

•Smoking cessation
•Anxiety management
•Anxiety disorders
•Anger management
•Building Self-Confidence
•Depression
•Fear of public speaking
•Male sexual issues
•Nail biting
•Over/under eating

Supervision

Counsellor, Psychotherapist & Hypnotherapist in The City of London and Central London

Supervision & Reflective practice

I provide supervision and reflective practice to individual counsellors, groups and to those working in supporting professions such as mental health workers, substance misuse workers and those working with homeless and vulnerable clients.

Through supervision my supervisees are able to reflect on the work they carry out with clients and are able to identify how and when they are working effectively and also to recognise where there may be a need for further support for both clients and themselves.

By supporting my supervisees to develop more self-awareness they are able to progress as practitioners.

Mindfulness & Meditation

Counsellor, Psychotherapist & Hypnotherapist in The City of London and Central London

“Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way; on purpose, in the present moment, and non- judgmentally." Jon Kabat-Zinn

My own interest and practice of Mindfulness has and continues to inform the way I work with my clients .

Many of the difficulties we face in our lives are generated due to us not experiencing situations from the person we are today but from who we were in the past.

This is because one of the ways our minds operate is that we take information from a present situation, try and make sense of it from past experiences and then project our past experience onto the current situation and possibly into future experiences.

As you can imagine this can lead to us accessing thoughts and emotions that can leave us feeling sad, anxious or depressed and feeling trapped between a seemingly difficult past and an uncertain future. However what does happen is that we are not present to what is actually taking place.
